Business Law and the Legal Environment
Published in Hardcover by South-Western Educational Publishing (January, 1990)
Author: Ronald Aberdeen Anderson
Average review score:

A Compelling Law Textbook!
Legal textbooks by nature are encyclopedic and ponderous, however, this text is one of the most interesting and compelling books I have ever read on the subject of law. The material is presented clearly and rationally and each topic is supplemented heavily by significant "real-world" examples. The examples are timely and upbeat and very interesting to read. You will find it difficult to avoid reading all the real-world examples at one sitting. If you are forced to purchase this text for a Business Law class.....count yourself lucky. This one is the best. If you are merely curious about the inner-workings of torts, contract law and intellectual propery rights, then this is the book to buy.

Cahokia: Mirror of the Cosmos
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (February, 2002)
Author: Sally Anderson Chappell
Average review score:

ancient american city
This is a stunning book, in every way: lavishly illustrated and a gorgeous, full-color design. Sally Chappell, who writes for the Travel Section of the New York Times, tells a fascinationg story of a sophisticated ancient culture and empire that thrived along the Mississippi valley between 1100 and 1500, at the same time that the Aztecs were coming into power in Meso-America and the Incas in South America. Cahokia was the major city of this empire, and in 1200 its population exceeded that of London in Europe. Chappell tells the story of this historic site near St. Louis, with its fabulous monumental architecture, relgious traditions, and trading networks. But Chappell takes it well beyond the story of the Native Americans. She explores how the site evolved over time, was influenced by French explorers, was used during the Civil War, and what became of the site in the 20th century. An amazing story of both a place and "place."

Cajun/Creole Cooking

Authors: Terry Thompson-Anderson and Terry L. Thompson
Average review score:

Authentic Cajun/Creole Cooking
I was born and raised in southwest Louisiana, and grew up with all of the wonderful Cajun and Creole dishes in this book. This book contains excellent recipes, excellent photographs, and wonderful background text. Also, a list of suppliers is included.

This is the cookbook I have recommended to all of my friends who ask about Louisiana cooking. It's a shame that it's out of print.

Calligraphy: The Art of Written Forms
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (October, 1992)
Author: Donald M. Anderson
Average review score:

Unique review of calligraphy
Unlike most "calligraphy" books, Anderson presents a review of the topic spanning the globe and millenia. Starting with Roman graffiti and ending with modern calligraphy revival schools in California to 8th Century Burma, there's a little bit of everything here.

A nice review of western european medieval calligraphy, I rarely use the rest of the book. It presents well how the different styles are related, the development of modern styles of calligraphy and type fonts, the 20th century revival of more traditional art forms with some froo-froo hat tipping to Victorian style copperplate to bold modern blocky forms.

This has it all. A well written book, it references the copious plates and examlpes while guiding the novice through the years and development of the manifaceted art style known as calligraphy.

I would recommend this for intermediate students who are interested in the history of calligraphy, to complement learning how to do it. This will not teach you how to do calligraphy, it will hopefully teach you how to appreciate it as an art form.

The Calling
I found this book easy to read with plenty of bible scripture to back up every point.I noticed that when I finished the book, it didn't say the end. Instead it said the beginning. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

The Cancer Conqueror
Published in Paperback by Turning Point Communications (01 November, 2000)
Authors: Greg Anderson and Abigail Van Buren
Average review score:

I have conquered cancer... today.
This is a tremendous book... and I've read it 30 times. It's easy to read but filled with insights that helped me find a pathway to recovery. I have also purchased over 30 copies of this book for my friends... ALL of whom have been diagnosed with cancer in the last 8 years since my own diagnosis. Surviving cancer is a process... and with good strategies and good medical care people do it all the time. This book is a roadmap of much of that process.

Caribbean by Cruise Ship
Published in Paperback by Ocean Cruise Guides (May, 1997)
Authors: Anne Vipond, Mel-Lynda Anderson, and Alan Nakano
Average review score:

A guide that every Caribbean cruise traveler should carry
If you're looking for a comprehensive and informative guide to Caribbean ports, you won't go wrong with this guide. You can save money by avoiding the cost of ship-sponsored shore excursions, and you'll be more informed when you reach your destination. Anne Vipond provides a good outline of information for each port, including ideas for unique or interesting activities for that location. There is plenty of information about availability of taxis, public transportation, and ways of getting to specific places. There is also a map of most port locations that will allow you to develop your own walking or taxi tour. The "Best Beaches" section for each port identifies your best bets for sun and sand. This guide book is well-organized, very readable, and small enough to carry with you in a purse, belt pack, or back pack (not small enough for most pockets, however). Highly Recommended!

Cassell's Colloquial German: A Guide to Idiomatic Usage
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (March, 1981)
Authors: Beatrix Anderson and Cassell
Average review score:

Indispensible!
This conveniently small (portable!) book has words and idioms arranged in standard dictionary format (for idioms this means organized by key words). Example sentences make usage very clear. I only have one complaint: idioms are not identified regionally. At any rate this book would serve admirably as an aid to translation or understanding. After the dictionary proper there are several smaller sections of words grouped by theme and translated in both directions: English false friends (extensive!), journalese, telephoning, food and dishes, travelling, motoring/technical auto terms, animal comparisons and analogies, AND a small section of English idioms. This little book is incredibly helpful and you won't need another one like it.
